JAN-KEN-PO 18 is the eighteenth edition of the Peruvian magazine Código - Yan Ken Po.

Jan-Ken-Po was a Sunday/weekly magazine launched as an informative and educational media for the communications, advertising, and marketing industry, aimed primarily at young people.

My task was the creation and illustration of the magazine cover. The concept that the client gave me was the following: “We prepare it with creativity to serve you...advertising, design, marketing, and related topics!” Under explanation, he meant that the visual of the cover must reflect the hard work that creatives, marketers, designers, and other members of the industry do so that it seems that they "eat, breathe and live their profession to the fullest."

I devised a person eating the alphabet soup (it forms keywords inside) since it was a direct but at the same time subtle way of giving the message that was sought about the concept.

When talking about creativity we take the brain as an icon, so I decided to add the concept of “zombies” that devour brains/creativity, added to the idea that creatives in the country work a lot and only live to work (zombies only live to eat brains). This was applied as the reverse side of the cover.

For the illustration (since the composition created by the client was very specific), I started sketching by hand and then taking it to digital. I leaned towards a mixed style For the cover, a completely flat design and regular, bright colors. For the back cover, a fusion between illustration and realism, using layers of flat color and then applying shadows, and details. Opaque effects and brown/green tone filters were used.

Thank you for watching my work.
